How it all started

The origin of Cool Color Photos

One day, in August 2019, I parked my car in my usual unreserved residential parking lot. It is usually crowded. Often, depending on the hour, you couldn't even find a place to park, anywhere; I live in a popular place in the Hollywood Hills.

typically my parking lot
is like this; crowded

That day the parking lot was empty. An empty parking lot in a prime location in prime time during the workweek in Los Angeles doesn't happen. It's wishful thinking. It's a fantasy. It's a miracle. Yet on that day I had my pick of ALL the parking spots. I parked my car.

I decided to take a picture of the miracle with my cell phone.

Then, a few weeks later, I looked at the photo again. It was a typical color photo. I thought it was a bit boring. A car, some trees, some blue sky, a lot of empty parking spaces. Nothing unusual other than the empty parking lot.

I decided to see if I could creatively make the photo less boring. I tinkered with it for awhile. BOOM!

Lone Car

WOW! Now the photo was colorful. Very colorful. California colorful. L.A. colorful. Bright. Unusual. Eye catching. Artistic. Alive. And definitely not boring! A very cool, very colorful photo.

And thus Cool Color Photos was born. September 2019.
